Meteeka is a Sustainable lifestyle brand from Assam that takes full advantage of the Water Hyacinth. Scientifically known as Eichornia crassipes, this remarkable plant is the most prolific on Earth, capable of producing over 200 tons of dry matter per hectare annually in normal conditions and even up to 657 tons when grown in water with high concentrations of sewage. Water hyacinth can be seen throughout Assam, from large lakes to residential ponds in rural areas, but it was only recently acknowledged for its potential and used rather than being disposed of.
As a founder and CEO of Meteeka.com, Pooja began training local women in Assam to produce decorative items, bags, and lifestyle products from Meteeka. Today she has 150+ local women artisans who sell their products under the Meteeka umbrella. She realizes that this natural material can reduce a lot of plastic consumption in our daily lives.
In order to empower local women, Meteeka is a Pure Design house that creates a range of apparel that combines tradition with contemporary flair. Like a pure creation that begins with the loom and craft, Meteeka offers novelty each time it is experienced. The designs add elegance, boldness and grace.
